A specialized store where books by Far Eastern authors will be presented has been proposed to be opened in Moscow, the Yakutia 24 TV channel reports.
The initiative was announced during the next round table as part of the new season of the V.K. Arsenyev, which took place online on April 20. Experts and book publishers discussed topical issues of publishing in the Far East.
“If you look at the triad writer-reader-publisher, then perhaps the main one is the publisher. We have many writers, even more readers, but few publishers. Little, because the publishing business is extremely difficult not only from a financial point of view, but also from a literary point of view,” said Vyacheslav Konovalov, curator of the award, president of the Literature of Pacific Russia festival.
According to Pavel Zhdanov, director of the Okhotnik publishing house from Magadan, today the publishing business in the Far East is experiencing difficulties due to rising prices for paper and printing ink.
“And I had an idea. And why not create a bookstore in Moscow or St. Petersburg with the name Vladivostok or Far East, where we, Far Eastern publishers, could present our books, ”he suggested.
The All-Russian Literary Prize Far East was established on the initiative of Deputy Prime Minister – Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev. The first laureates of the award were awarded in December 2019 as part of the Far East Days events in Moscow.
