Alina Kabaeva reacted to FIG's statement about refereeing at the Olympics-2020

Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics, chairman of the board of directors of the National Media Group holding and Sport-Express JSC Alina Kabaeva responded to the statement of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) regarding refereeing in rhythmic gymnastics at the 2020 Olympic Games.

In a letter to the FIG President, Morinari Vatanabe, who published the Championship, Kabaev calls to reveal all the information about the actions of the judges at the Tokyo Personal Multibody tournament.

On August 19, FIG published a message in which it claims that no deviations or violations were revealed in the actions of the Olympic Judicial Brigade. But, analyzing the grades affixed by Dina Averina and Lina Ashram, Alina Kabaeva emphasizes that this is not so. The judges clearly made a mistake – because the average score among the Russian athlete is noticeably higher than that of her Israeli competitor, and is 24,000 points against 23,300. Nevertheless, the jury gave the Olympic gold Ashram.

Kabaeva notes that the only correct in such a situation would be to disclose complete information about refereeing, corresponding to the fundamental principles of the Olympic movement. At the same time, she emphasizes that in controversial situations, such information should in no case be hidden from the public. In the meantime, in addition to the statement of FIG of August 19, no public analysis of the work of judges in Tokyo was made.

Recall that at the competition in rhythmic gymnastics at the Olympics in Tokyo, the Israeli Ashram won gold, making a serious mistake. Dina Averina took second place in the all -around, and her sister Arina became the fourth. Judgeing caused a wave of criticism, including from Alina Kabaeva, and Russian gymnasts for the first time in 25 years were left without gold medals of the Olympics.
