Maxim Averin about Israeli tour: for me it is joy

Very soon, vaccinated citizens of Russia will finally be able to get to Israel, and among the first to fly to our country, the unique and beloved Maxim Averin. The Honored Artist of the Russian Federation will come not just like that, but on tour, presenting the performance “Teach Me to Live” to the Israeli public.

Theater and film actor, director, TV presenter and just a versatile creative personality, gladly gave us an interview on the eve of the Israeli voyage. Maxim Averin talked to a journalist Nadia Vazhnin about his performance, opening borders, not forgetting to discuss the most relevant topics for every person in the world.

– Maxim, I will not hide the fact that Russian-speaking Israelis are insanely happy with the news that Russian tourists will be allowed into our country. And not only because we will finally be able to see our families and friends, but also because our favorite artists will resume touring.

– For me, this is no less joyful and significant event, because two years of such a difficult wait, cancellations, postponements and everything. I will not hide that Israel is a special country for me, just as my love for this land is special. I can imagine how tired the public is already believing that we will finally arrive. There are no doubts that these tours will take place, since the borders have been opened for vaccinated Russians. You know, in this case, I always set Israel as an example, as the state that was the first to absolutely clearly and smoothly go through this whole terrible story with the pandemic.

I will say this, I went to the forefront to get vaccinated, because I work daily among a huge number of people on the set and in the theater. My first tour after the lockdown took place in February, and therefore I had to somehow protect myself. Otherwise, I would have to stay at home, not go anywhere, but this is not for me! I often communicate with doctors, I see what feats they perform every day and I know firsthand about the things that happen when people go to the hospital and when they die. It’s just worth considering how much you value your life and the people who are waiting for you at home. And if there is such an opportunity to somehow protect yourself, then why not do it?

– Yes, anyway, the topic of vaccination remains quite acute. And there is a kind of courage in the fact that you are so open about your position on this issue, without fear that it may alienate part of the public from you.

– It's all nonsense! There is nothing to fear here! I do not impose anything, but simply share my position and express my personal opinion. If they ask me, I am talking about this, but I do not make social advertising out of this, God forbid, and I’m not going to earn it on this. I just think that you need to listen to people who are smarter than me in this sense. For example, Leonid Roshal is a great doctor. And if Roshal said to be vaccinated, then what is to me, an ignorant person, to object to him. And then, you see, I want to work, I want to go on stage and not be afraid of communication with the audience, go to the set. In general, I still want to live!

The topic is important, and it is not a matter here, and I would never have done that. It’s just that this is a great opportunity to somehow influence your audience, to tell your viewers, who are probably interesting to my opinion. Therefore, I always try to talk about it. Again, why I put Israel as an example. In my eyes, this is a state in which citizens' health is above all. And this is wonderful, because the Israelis are large families, these are dads and mothers who have yet to raise a bunch of their children to their feet, so they will never take their own health in life negligently.

In December, you will bring an unusual performance to Israel. More precisely, the monospace Teach me to live. What is he talking about?

– This performance is almost completely my composition, with the exception of the verses of great poets. All monologues in it are invented and lived by me. And these are not just some words, but what I have been going on for years. The performance is already eleven years old. All this time he changed, because I am growing, and he grows with me. We can say that the program that the Israeli viewer will see is already completely different, unlike the original.

– My attention was attracted by the note in the announcement that this is not a creative evening and not a concert, but a performance.

– The fact is that when popularity fell on me, there was a demand for traveling with creative evenings, which implies a game of question with the audience. I was thirty years old then, and I thought: Who am I to talk about myself? As a result, most of these evenings I read the works. Then it seemed to me that this is a kind of opportunity to do what they did not expect from me.

Gradually, all this grew into the play Teach me to live. A monologue in which I must enter into a dialogue with spectator hearts and souls. I remember the time when this story was a little torn, but now it has gained that very integrity and I began to especially like it. But this does not mean that the performance will now forever remain like this. He will still continue to grow with me. This is the power of the theater that the same performance is always a little different.

Despite the multiple transfers of the Israeli tour of Maxim Averin, they will still take place very soon.
